So I’m looking into getting my first UL rod. I’ve been eyeing the sage dart, a 2wt to be exact. But have come across some older sages such as the TXl and TXL-f. I’m curious about the casting abilities and action characteristics of some of these rods. Is the TXL “slower” than the F version and is the F version slower than the dart? I want something a little more “snappy”, with stable tracking, and more of a mid to tip flex. I have the ability to purchase a TXL 00wt, but not having ever put my hands on a rod that small. Is it able to cast say a size 18 bead head zebra midge “properly”(I guess if you would call it properly?) or should I aim more towards a 1 or 2wt?

I dont have any experience with the TXL or F. However I picked up a 2wt Dart about a month ago. Fished it the first time this past weekend. I tried it with both the Orvis Superfine 2wt line and the Nock-off cheap eBay 2wt creek line. From my limited experience the Dart easily manages 2 size 18 heavy tungsten bead head flies, ( I was using a Caddis larva and Rainbow warrior in conjunction with the smallest Oreos strike indicator, I think is 5/8”. For short 10-15’ casts the creek line worked well and I could reach out to 30 or 40 feet with no problem. With the Orvis Superfine, I could do the same, the only difference was that the creek line loaded the rod with less line out. I want to try it out with a 3wt Superfine line. Fish ranged from 8”-14 or 15” trout, and a few smaller creek chubs. I would say the Dart is a medium fast action and has officially replaced my TFO Finesse 1 and 2wts, and my Orvis Superfine in 1 and 2wts UL rods. I still have a Orvis Recon 3wt, but a couple more trips with the Dart are in order to decide if it will be replaced or not. I recently contacted Orvis and acquired a 10’ 2wt Recon Blank and components for a Project Healing Waters Rod building class that I will be teaching. If I can figure out the picture thing again, I’ll post some pictures of my set up and trip.

Welcome to the UL world, it is addicting!
I'm curious as well. I'd like to pick up an TXL 00wt, if you don't buy it send my a message please.
