I'm thinking I want a longish 2 wt.

Currently under consideration are the Echo Dry at 9' and the TFO Pro 2 at 8'.

Will be used for panfish short-term and trout in a few years.

Any reason to prefer one over the other?

No experience with the Echo, but I have thoroughly enjoyed my TFO 8' Pro II 2 weight for several years. It seems (at least to me) to come alive with a 2 1/2 or 3 weight line. It and my TFO Finesse half weight are the two most-used rods in my arsenal.

I too have the TFO 2 weight Professional 8 foot. I have had it for 12 years and is my go to rod. I agree that it performs very well with a heavier line. As an example I am presently using a total weight of around the 180 grain mark with Skagit/Scandi casting. A pick up and cast gets me 60 plus feet with no effort. You will not be unhappy with this rod. IMO.

Reelflyrod had a Black Friday sale today, so I ordered that TFO Pro 2 8' 2 wt. Sometime early next year I'll grab a reel and some line for it, and then I won't be needing any more fly rods for a while. :-)

Let us know how you do with the TFO Pro 2 weight.
I always pick mine up first and yet I have some nice rods in 3,4 and 5 weight.

Yeah, I hate to say it, but that's pretty much what I was thinking, too. :-/

I also have the tfo 2wt pro....awesome little rod......but be careful,if you put it too close to another rod they magically reproduce and you end up with 2 or 3 two weights, a 0 weight, a 1 wt....try placing it in your truck by itself with a few flies...maybe you'll be ok. Who knows? :lol :lol :lol :lol

I already have that problem... A Maxcatch 1 wt and 3 wt, and an Echo glass 3 wt. I think there's a CGR 2 wt around here somewhere, too.

But I need to throttle down for a bit. Just bought a lot of computer stuff. Gotta pay some stuff off before I do anything else.

I am entertaining taking that Pro 2 to Montana next year, though. :-)

Hardy also markets a 9ft 9in Zephrus Ultralite 2wt. I have the "regular" Zephrus in other weights, including a 9ft 3wt and love it, and have "wiggled" the ultralite in the store. Beautiful rod, if a bit expensive.

I find it tricky enough to land fish on my various 7.5' UL rods without risking the rod tip, can't even imagine trying to do it on a rod that is nearly two and a half feet longer!

What was their sale price.

Only had that problem one or twice . Both time it was a short fast action rod .

I know this is a little late. Loop Evotec comes in a 8'6" 2wt. In Either a medium or medium fast action.
