That's not just UL, it's also US (ultrashort). I don't think I see that as a distance caster, but I can think of a few brushy creeks where that length might come in handy.

Looks like fun! I built a 5' 4wt Batson Rainshadow that fishes well. I'd like to try that one!

Yes indeed, that is short for a 3-weight. Now Jangles, if you used only the upper two sections of that Proof three-piece 6' 2-weight, you might have a 4-foot 0- or 1-weight...

Elkhorn has some very nice rods. Their shop is only a short drive from my house in Loveland. I have two of their rods, and one of them is a 7' 2wt Traveler series. Great little med/fast rod, and just a joy to fish with. I just wish they still built the Nomad series. It's a fantastic medium action rod and it really ticks me off that they discontinued it. I actually wanted on in a 5wt, but they are all gone..
