Good evening all, new member from Houston. I had a Trident TL 7’ 4wt that broke (loved that rod), Orvis can’t repair it so they are building me an original Helios 7’ 4wt 4 piece, mid flex. Can anyone give me their thoughts on this rod? Since it’s the original one I’m having a tough time finding anything on the web.

Thanks,
Mike

Sorry, Mike MPH. I can't give any info about the new rod you're getting but you've aroused my curiosity about your unfortunate mishap. Could you go into more detail about the break, such as the location on the rod, or maybe provide a photo?

Wrong board , this is Ultralight up to 3wt . Hate to be a prick but next somebody will come in with a 5 and 6 and so on . Good luck there are lots of other boards but if you ever get a 3 or under come on back .

Mike: Wow! That's some great service from Orvis. No real surprise, though. Yes, tell us about the break!

The original Helios have a decent reputation. My brother in law forgot his old 8.5' 5wt mid-flex (I think) here and I picked it up one summer and had my first experiences fly fishing using it. I didn't like it at the time because like most new fly fishers my form was garbage and I could cast noticeably farther by overpowering an ultra-fast broomstick rod instead.

After a few years I found it again and it is a sweet caster, and very light.

It was the second section from the tip. I’d love to say it broke fighting a monster, however a buddy borrowed it and forced it into the wrong sized rod tube. Not a very glamorous way to go...

And apologies for the wrong board to post on.
