A while back I busted a 080-3 SPL fishing for westslope cutts somewhere in Idaho (the place in my high country reports in the photo section). I sent the old SPL back to Sage June of 2020. After almost a year I received the replacement via FedEx today. Eager to give it a try, I unpacked it, threw on a reel and went out in my backyard to give it a go.

Overall, I am very happy with the rod. I was able to make some nice casts with it. I will always be a fan of the older Sage ultralight rods; however, given how hard they are to come by. I am going to put them away for good and fish the TXL-F. I am very happy with the rod and think I might pick up a few more. Now that I live in the Southeastern US, I cant wait to try it out on some smallmouth creeks! i will naturally also take it with me when I go back and visit Idaho.

I think you oughta fish 'em all, trying to preserve rods in such a manner almost guarantees someone else will inadvertently destroy them with some act of annoying clumsiness. OOOOPS...sorry (Oh, not yet you ain't >: ).

Above cautionary note aside, the newly arrived stick does deserve to be fished frequently and joyously regardless of others in the arsenal. Such a rod will make anything so much fun, you may never even get around to those smallies.

Yeah, I will most like continue fishing my old 080-3s weather it be a SPL or SLT but this TXL-F is pretty nice too. I had the 000710-3 TXL back in the day also. That was sold to pick up more SPLs though :lol

I eagerly am awaiting this Brood X I keep hearing about. I've read up a bit on it and the dry fly fishing is supposedly insane when it occurs.

Now that you have the SLT, those might not get fished as much!

A cicada brood that emerges every seventeen years. From what I have read the numbers are in the billions or even trillions. When it occurs, all types of fish go crazy for them and the fishing is crazy.
