Yesterday I picked up an SLT080-3 In unused new condition. Have only cast it a few times in the garden so far, but can’t wait to hit a river soon. Gorgeous rod!

Hi Sasha
I had a short session for just over an hour this evening with it. Very cold at 5C but the wind was nothing so could really feel the rod. Took me maybe 25 mins to get dialled into the rod as I’m used to faster rods, But once I did? It was pure fishing heaven! Caught five on dryfly, only small fish but good fun on that rod, bends nicely. The TXLF’s are medium fast according to Sage,Darts fast action. I would say this is medium to medium fast. Its not slow, but more silky smooth! Love it! Winner this one

Yes, they’re great rods indeed. Too bad they don’t modern ones like it.

The fish on feel is great with this rod. Gives better sport with smaller stream browns. I had an SPL 2wt many years ago and hooked fish stay on better with this action. Yes we need a new series down to 0wt with this Medium to medium fast action.

The Rio DT 0wt lines Whether LT or LL now,are both 58 grains. I am using a 58 grain line, but its silk. And 58 grains is actually 1wt. I never have more than 20 feet of flyline in the air so a 1wt makes sense.

Of course it may seem a bit unusual to use a silk line with a carbon fiber rod, but how would you compare a silk line to the more usual PVC line of equal weight?

Hi Pete Silk is narrower than plastic for a given weight. I rather like that for the very fine lines. Its more supple than plastic. They last an age unlike plastic. Choice of half or full lines. I like the half lines (15 metres) for the streams I’m fishing. Plenty of line, half the price, still double tapered and less weight on a reel. I use Terenzio Artificial silk lines. I treat them a few times to start with and then they only need that now and then. Float very high.

I fish the original generation Sage Quiet Double Taper in 0 wt and have used the same in a 1 wt on my SPL 080-3. Both fish well. Love the SPL !

Hi Tom From what I gather from folk on here like Sasha? The SPL 0wt is exactly like the SLT 0wt I gotta agree? fantastic rods! Very smooth to cast with a great fish on feel. I use two silk lines on mine 53 grains and 58 grains.
