I would like to ask your opinion on the Maxcatch V-Feather rod. I spotted it, but before buying it I wanted to understand how it behaved and if it had too stiff an action. Thanks for the help!

I have the very similar Airlite Fly, in 7'6" 2wt. Like all Maxcatch rods its a very good value for the money, and it is probably rated at least a half line weight light, and is probably a little stiffer than their rating. It casts amazing though.

Slow in responding. sorry: I have a 6' 1 wt from the V Feather line. It casts very nicely with a 2wt line (others have found this, too). As 1ka said, they are good value for the money. I paid $50 for mine, have a tiny Ant King reel on it (won't even hold a full line) and have used it well over 20 times, with no complaints. I'm not terribly adept at rating actions, but with the 2 wt line, I'd say it was medium crisp. brent

Thanks so much for your time. I really appreciate that. I was afraid that the Maxcatch V-Feather (I was looking at the 7'6 "3wt) was too stiff and the presentation was not very delicate. Perhaps the Maxcatch Airlite (always 7'6 "3wt) could be a little less stiff as medium-fast action is indicated. However I need a rod that won't break if I meet a bigger fish.

Can't help you there, but I will say that, first time out with my little 6' 1wt, I landed a totally unexpected 12" smallmouth bass with relative ease, and at no time did the rod seem at risk. brent
