Here are couple of photos of the Dennison reel. The friction is created from the black plastic piece, which is notched on the bottom, riding on the shoulder of the brass piece on the inside of the spool. It looks like the friction could be modified slightly by changing the viscosity of the grease on the plastic piece. Next to an Orvis BBS I. The Orvis is 3.2 oz, and the Dennison 2.2 oz.

Thanks Jerry, that looks serviceable enough for most UL work.

Have you fished with the dennison? If so how does it feel in use? I have been aware of them for awhile now but it's hard to find any sort of feedback on them.. Janus

I notice the plastic piece is held in place by a u-keeper on the shaft. The keeper could be removed and the drag plastic be replaced with whatever you could fabricate if the thing got worn.

I think I'm going to pass on one of these. It wouldn't have been all that hard for them to just make it a non adjustable clicker.

Had they made it a non adjustable clicker, they could have sold for $300, look at Hardy!

No I don't think they would sell for $300. I have two of the English made BFR Orvis Clearwater reels, both non adjustable clickers. They cost under $40.00

I was making a stab at Hardy...Did those Clearwaters come in sizes small enough for UL rods?

The smallest one was about 4oz empty if I remember right. I have a St Croix Imperial 55, which is the same thing as the BFR made Clearwater's with the disc drag. It weighs around 4.2oz.

Thanks for the pix. Never had one apart. Actually, they work quite well. No spool overruns and easy reverse. I have them on several rods. Classy, lite reels with good line capacity. You can't beat the price either. Bob makes the smallest functional reel around too, the Fly-lite. Don

That Fly-Lite is teeny Don. For the price, the Dennison would probably be sufficient for most of our fishing!

Since I purchased the Dennsion that Jerry got, I was curious to know if spare spools were available for the Dennison Ultra Light. I Emailed Bob Dennison today and he said that spare spools are available for just $24.00.
