I worked a swap with Andy a couple of weeks ago and ended up with two identical Lamson Velocity reels. I noticed while playing around with them that one was noticeably smoother than the other. Neither was bad--it's just that one had just a touch of drag while *retrieving* line (when there should be no drag).

I emailed Lamson's customer service department over the weekend and promptly forgot about it. Early Monday morning I received an email from Emily at Lamson in which she guessed what the defective part might be and said she was sending out two spares so I could attempt to fix it myself, and if that didn't work she was attaching a customer returns form and promised to have the reel fixed and back to me as soon as possible if I needed to send it in.

The package arrived today (from Idaho to Texas in two days) and I had the new part installed in less than two minutes. The reel now functions perfectly!

Lamson has made a loyal customer out of me Image

Great news Jerry: it's good to hear about an American manufacturer still backing up their products with over-the-top customer service. Unfortunately, that's a rarity today.

I own a Lamson Radius (not ul) & it's al;ways good to hear of excellent service. It's what makes that slightly higher purchase price "worth it".

Jerry, I am glad to hear about that. Was it the clutch bearing?

No, the bearing is perfect. It's call the gland cap, and it's the plastic geared piece on the end of the center assembly--the piece I pointed to in that photo. I guess the tolerance was just a little too tight and it was rubbing on the shaft of the spool. I was hoping that was all it was when I saw that the geared piece was different between the two reels. It truly was about a 60 second repair!
