Jeremy asked that I review my 2 wt, so here goes...
Good buddy Joe Valencic built mine & gifted me with it. It is a 2 piece, and is noticeably softer than his 4 piece 6'6" Forecast. My first catch on the rod was a wild mountain stream brookie (my first) caught in Virginia's Shenandoah Mountains. Tons of fun & casting there was no problem as the foliage blocked what little wind we had. Wind in an open area can be an issue (especially given MY casting skills!), but with low to moderate winds, this rod is a delight to fish. I have caught many bluegill on it that are 9" to 10", a couple bass in the 12" to 14" category, & numerous brown trout to 12". BTW, I fish it with a Ross Flycast 1 reel & Wulff TT2F line. Joe prefers to overline to a 3 wt line, something I have never done & can't say how that may work out for someone else.
To summarize, mine has a fixed reel seat & I would prefer a sliding ring seat similar to my 3 wt Legend Ultra, but that is probably the only change I would make. The rod handles wonderfully, & those big gills are a HOOT on this 2 wt....This year, I plan to take an 11 incher on this rod. If you build rods, make yourself one of these..you'll not be sorry!!

Jeremy,
You know you can fish any outfit I own. Unfortunately, looks like we have to wait till Spring for more gills. Image

Well the factory has to be rested, so I can wait. Maybe we can get some 12" gills in 2009.

If you don't roll out here, you are missing trophy gills of a lifetime. Oh wait, Mikey and I catch them on a regular basis. HA!

You know you want one of these.

Andy,
As you know, weather is "iffy" in the Spring, but it generally gets good in April. BTW, there are 2 other ponds that have yielded 10 inchers that Jeremy has yet to fish. One of those ponds consistently yields thick bodied 9 to 9 1/2 inchers, but nothing over 10" out of there yet. Of course, this was my first year on that pond, so I'll work on getting those sizes up.

What is the trick to growing trophies? I have a lake here that could benefit from some management. I caught one 10" fish this spring.

Ask Mikey, he's the expert. By the way, that gill in the pic above I caught on Mikey's St. Croix Legend Ultra 8' 3wt. That's one of Mikey's famous yellow woolly worms in it's mouth.

Andy, It is not a trick, it is a method. Visit www.pondboss.com and/or www.bigbluegill.com. Both have the instructions and expertise and proof that they know how to grow monster sun fish.

Thanks! I will check those two sites out as well. There are a few lakes here that could benefit.

the forecast 7'6"-2 piece-3 weight is a lighter, deeper flexing brim rod than the 6'6"-2 weight. It is a full flex with a quick tip. Its a slower rod than the 2 weight, if anyone is looking for a nice little brim rod. It is truly an ultralight fishing pole-p-

For those of you who don't have one of P's rods, he is the man when it comes to Forecast blanks. Don

I agree with Pearow- I had both the 2wt and the 3wt and preferred the 3wt. It was a tad heavier in the hand, but it did have a softer flex profile and really was a nice moderate action rod. The 2wt is definitely quicker and I (here comes the blasphemy) fished mine as a short 4wt. That rod could throw out an Air Cel Supreme WF4F line like nobody's business. 30' casts were literally done with a short flick of the wrist- very easy to fish rod.

I actually liked the older teal colored Forecast blanks even better- they were a bit slower and I really regret getting rid of my 7.5' 3wt from that blank. That was one of the sweetest blanks I had ever fished until I got a hold of the Lami honey glass blanks.
