Thanks Guys. I have access to both the reels - distributor lives near me and offered to bring them to my work so I can check them out. Only thing that puts me off is the colour - I prefer black matte finish reels for UL fishing.

I heard through the grapevine that Shilton reels are bringing out a click pawl which will come in at under 3oz apparently and retail for around R1500 (about US$150). These reels, particularly the salt water models, have a cult like status and are all made here in SA. They are excellent reels which apparently have been well received in the US market. Will post more about this as soon as I have more info.

Hi Paul,

This cool little reel has some of the features of the Waterworks ULA Purists. How do you adjust the wand? My P-1 came with a small allen wrench to increase the drag, you set the wand deeper into the teeth on the spool. This reel also separates like the P-1.

Just bought the gt24. Its a great little reel. It came with 2 wands - 1 for light drag and 1 for slightly more tension. Am very chuffed with it. Mine comes in a 2.8oz.

Glad you found a reel. Be sure to post a performance report after you fish it.
