I also bought Wayne Cattanach's book to help, I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in making or even fishing bamboo.
I got it for only $10 on Amazon.

I am psyched about that cane rod Don! Man, it casts amazingly with a WF3F line and the amount of feel you have is incredible.

Thanks Andy. Fly Chef, can you give me the measurement of the swell and how far up it is from the butt? I have a 6611 to build and may change things up a bit. Don

I'll copy and paste the numbers from Kiley's post to me. They still don't mean much to me as I'm just starting the planing process on Sunday.
on the 6611 i make my swell .056 to .054 over 5" from the front of the grip.thats .028 or .026 per strip.10"front of grip .281 15".226 is what i shoot for.steve
Hope this helps, Keith

The swelled butt should all but neutralized the noodle in the rod. I ve got a AJ Thramer 7'0 4 weight DXSB and to this day it is one of favorite Bamboo rods. That rod is a true medium to fast action. In fact it was the first modern Bamboo rod I ever owned recommended by the people on Clarks forum ..Paul

Is that one of AJ's own tapers? I forget how he codes. If so, is it reminiscent of any taper I might know? Don

The DX if I remember designates Dry Fly and the SB obviously is swelled butt, there was also another code for the flex of the rod, I have the rod back in Oregon so I dont recall the designation ......Paul
