I would love to see one of those rods and try one on some sunnies. I'm still trying to imagine- Rainbows fighting like Marlins!

I have a 5' 6" 1 weight, but you are talking longer here. The extra length is what allows for the even lighter line, I'll wager. I doubt if the measurement at the tip is appreciably finer than with a 1 weight. The taper is the key. I wish I knew what anomalies the builder found in the Catskill. Don

If I can get the tapers I will build the little creatures. They must be parabolic and interesting to cast. I am building a 5' 3wt Quad out of Madake Bamboo right now. The cane is from Japan and is a little slower than Tonkin. That being said, the power fibers are close knit like Tonkin. It gives me interesting ideas. Maybe a 5' 6" Madake Penta 000. The color of the cane is naturally a little green when dry unlike Tonkin that turns straw colored. My head is spinning.

Isn't there a Japanese fellow making cane rods out of indigenous Japanese cane? I thought I seen something like that before on the net. Sounds very interesting to me.

The Japanese rod maker is named Kagerow, and he builds amazing rods. Here is a link to a discussion about him on the Clark Classic Rod Forum.

There are a couple Japanese Builders using Madake. The builder I bought cane from doesn't build rods that small. I will do the math to get to at least 0 wt. I have enough Madake left to play around with another concept type rod.
