I got my black Martin 61 yesterday. It sits well on the Orvis 1wt, and I am excited to take it out tomorrow morning loaded with a brand new Orvis Wonderline Advantage DT1F. I have a few pictures here of the reel unloaded. Les took these pictures before sending the reel to me. This reel is a champ!

Well, I now have two if that tells you anything. They are both lined and ready to go. Martin Tuna Cans are seriously underrated as fishing tools.

AndyI thought that's what you meant but wanted to be sure. I've got a never fished 61 that I tried out on a 6'-3", 3/4 Kettle Creek rod that I just finished. It's a perfect match as it balances perfectly. Rod & ReelButt section with Martin 61 Reel

I like that rod. I've had a hard time finding kettle creek blanks. Where did you get that one?

Robin Thanks for the kind words. It's a great little rod, although it's a little softer/slower than Phil's 6'-8", 3/4 blank. However, it's just as smooth casting. Like Butter!
swalker As far as I know, the only place one can order a Kettle Creek blank is directly from Kettle Creek Fly Shop. Below is the contact information for the Shop.
Phil Baldacchino Kettle Creek Tackle Shop 17 Kettle Creek Tackle Lane Renovo, PA 17764 Phone-(570) 923-1416 Fax-(570) 923-1420 Phil doesn't have a Webb Site. Hell, he doesn't even have a computer, and doesn't want one! (LOL) I've found the best way to contact him is with a phone call (see above information).

Nice Barry.
I like the shape of the grip on your Kettle Creek.
Did you turn that yourself?

David Good to hear from you! How's things going in TN? Well I hope. Thanks for the kind words about the grip. Yep, I turned the grip myself. I loosely modeled it after one of Phil's grips (Kettle Creek Tackle Shop). It's kind of a reduced size modified Western that IMO, looks good on the lighter weight rods.

Martin 60 series tuna can was my first fly reel, bought from a local 5 & 10 (Roses, for those of you in my part of the country) for a couple of dollars when I was 12. A 4wt level Air Cell, pre-tied leader, converted UL spinning rod, and a few wet flies completed the outfit, and I couldn't count the bluegill and crappie (brim and calicos) it brought home for the pan). I don't have much need for any more reels, but a mint or pristine MG-3 would likely pry some $$ out of my wallet--very nice little reels. -CC

Barry, that Kettle Creek is pretty! The Martin reel is one of the later models, and worth the couple bucks you have in it!
CCO, follow ebay. There have been some EIB (excellent in box) MG-3s going for less than half a Benjamin. The next one I see, I will PM you the link. I am in love with my 61s and don't need more reel for anything. They are smooth, light and durable. If they bend from a drop, guess what? Press the bend out with your thumb, or buy a new one, they are cheap.
