Les gave me a small Gurgler awhile back and I've been experimenting with it lately.

Easy fun fly to Ty

I often tie my gurglers with a lower lip to kick up a commotion and call those reds in. They are a hoot to fish, but I get so many misses from the reds I mostly just use them to call up fish in nasty water any more. What size hook are you tying those on?

Hipshot,

I apologize, I did not realize you had asked me a question. I tied those on a Tiemco 200R size 8

I've been tying my gurglers on a size 8 (Allen Fly) bass stinger hook. Sometimes with a double foam layer if I really want to be able to kick up a commotion.
Inspiration from Don -- with a little bit of Yankee tinkering.

try the tan colored foam. Barry, A friend of mine turned me on to this color years ago and its the best color for a gurgle i've found. Also, Barry also puts on bead chain eyes taken from those New orleans type plastic bead chains. The plastic eyes adds durability to the fly and they look good-p-

hipshot have you tried adding a dropper off the hook bend when fishing a gurgler? I use them in the spring for fussy stripers. The gurgler gets their attention then I usually have a grass shrimp fly dropper.
