Wanted to break in the new vice tonight. This is a 1/124 jig. It's called a Caps Spider. Been wanting to try this one. I didn't have any chenille, so I had to substitute black sparkle braid. I also going to make a few with peacock herl as well.

Nice photos thanks for posting.
Try using some wire to counter wrap the Peacock body,, it will reinforce the fragile material and give longer life before unraveling.

I've caught more bream on cap spiders than any other fly. I like how they go deep quickly, the bigger fish are usually deeper.

Nice. Those look great! I had a few of these in some flies I got from Mark Vinyard last spring, and they outperformed everything else in the box for bluegill. And to be fair, I didn't even know what I was doing. If I may, I have a question for you 'brimmers':
I have all the materials to tie some of these up, but I don't have the tiny jig hooks, and was contemplating tying some up using beadheads on conventional wet fly hooks. Anyone ever try that? Any reason it wouldn't work? brent

I also think you could use a fly hook and a little lead wire. 1/124 isn't much weight. A person might even be able to use 1/80.

I have used 1/64 jig heads from Walmart and academy. Not the most graceful cast with a 2 and 3wt but it can be done.

I make mine with a #10 mustad jig hook and metal beads I purchase at hobby lobby. I lose a lot of them in the brush so I tie em cheap-p-
