I recently watched a utube video on using silicon adhesive, dubbing, and a large needle to make detached mayfly bodies. I thought the technique was pretty cool and produced some really realistic bodies.

I tried it this weekend, but instead of silicon; I used Solarez thick formula UV glue and it worked really well and I didn’t have to wait for the silicon adhesive to dry. The bodies turned out really nice and it was fairly quick and easy. I’m not a master tyer by any stretch of the imagination so if I was able to do it; anyone can.

If you’re interested in this technique, just Google silicon mayfly and it should be the first or second one. I was just sharing the tip about using the solarez UV stuff in case anybody was wanting to try it.

Good Luck,

D

Just noticed this post. I coat a needle with a bit of wax, add tails, then spin it and add dubbing and Silicon. Like to vary the dubbing color as I go.
