Is there a difference in sewing thread and tying 6/0? I am asking because, while tying thread isn't pricey per se, there are other stores that offer sewing thread for next to nothing.

I've never tried sewing thread. Why not test it out and give us a report.

Give me your mailing addresses in yuku mail you guys, Ive got litterly miles of 5/0 Beldin Corticelli thread on 400 yard bobbins and 700 yard mini cones I bought by the case years ago when the garmet industry left California, I would be glad to mail you guys some samples, it works great, its unwaxed so you will need to wax it up if you need it that way, its all 100% quality Nylon. Fact is Ive used it on guide wraps on some bamboo rods for some fine threadwork as well. Richard

The difference is the size of the thread versus its strength; the 6/0 uni thread is much more powerful for its diameter than sewing thread; it'l also lay much better than sewing thread; however a very good thread can be used from the sewing department; thats the real small mono thread you can get either in clear or smoke; its very good fly tying thread; you can get it at any walmart sewing department. you can spin deer hair with 6/0 unithread if youre careful-p-

I'm a big fan of 8/0 Uni thread since I tend to tie up lots of nymphs and wets. I like minimal build up and the 8/0 suites me best.
