Yesterday I went looking for snook and jacks. The spot was dead, not a single strike from any species.

Waves were supposed to be a bit high at my bonefish spot. Decided to check it out on my way back.

It was almost flat. There was a group of about 2 dozen bones 20 feet from the shore. Swimming more or less in tight circles. I casted trying to land my fly about 1 foot outside of the group. It was windy, the fly landed about one foot over the group.

The scared a bit but remained in formation. Three strips and boom! Time to run. Once hooked I had to walk maybe 100 feet behind the fish as it decided to go over rocks due to people bathing on the sandy area of the beach. Worried about it zigzaging and breaking me off I chased it until we got to a sandy patch and I was able to land it.

One cast one fish, that was all. They got lost after that.

It's my first bonefish on the Maxcatch V-Feather 3wt rod and Avid Reel.

That's a neat looking fly. What can you tell me about it? It looks like one of those things that could catch any fish anywhere!

That's my version of the spawning shrimp. It's a well known bonefish Fly. It can be made with EP. I use Congo hair instead.

Still waiting for my invite. Especially if they still eat after you line them! I am the master at plunking fish on the forehead.

Looks like a fun way to spend the day!

Good post and pictures thanks. Wondering if you always sight cast or usually need to blind cast ?

Here is impossible (or almost impossible} to catch one of these picky bastards blind casting. I always sight cast to them. Even then I get skunked many many times.
