Reading the great reports by the likes of Strummer and Roblpl made me leave the wood stove and snowshoe down to the stream to have a look around. Near as I can figure, there's 18" of ice and between 3 and 5 feet of snow, depending on wind direction and tree cover. Better hit the tying bench...its only a matter of months, now. brent

We're miserable here in North Texas. 35-45 deg. weather Monday even better 20-35. 3 feet of snow and 18" of ice you can't even drill thru that. How much of the year are you free of ice? Owee, I'm miserable for you.

The stream I'm on freezes up about late november most years, but the fishing season ends mid October anyway. Season Opens again April 15, but lots of years there's still some ice around, and we have a snowmelt freshet that bumps the water about 6 to 15 feet above summer low and that can back up from the main river and take til late May to drop. That's usually a sign for the blackflies to emerge. They relent in time for the mosquitoes. I can usually go upstream a couple of miles in late April and find brookie fishing, and there's often atlantic salmon fishing on the Miramichi River by opening day. And I often find my way to SC for a month in late march/early april so I can get some gill and bass fishing in. This year, I"m heading to Virginia for a couple of weeks in mid March; hopeully get some Blueridge trout fishing in. So, what's good about it? Well, nobody lives here. That means a lot to me. And to my knowledge, I'm the only one who fishes the stream across from my place, for a couple of kms downstream. (not counting otters/mink/herons/eagles/mergansers/bears). So when its good, its VERY good. But all in all, I'd rather be able to fish all year round like you lucky folk. brent

Haha. Cute. Tell him next time to get a photo without trees growing at the top of the slope. Still an impressive amount of snow, though. (Unless that's not actually your brother, but an 11" 'action figure' ) - We have a guy here who takes pictures of his catch with a GI Joe standing next to it. Looks like a 300 lb bass. Or just Cliff with a normal day's catch brent
