Hooked some salty stuff the other day. Went back yesterday and despite seeing a good number of fish, I got skunked. They were keyed in on a large bait hatch that I couldn't match.
So, it was the sweet stuff this morning. I came across a video from North 40 fly shop. The "Seminar Bugger". I tied up two. They would be the only flies I took to the canal.
There was a long period of nothing, interrupted by this guy
Squirmy gar make for blurry pics and slimy hands
Colorful coppernose.
There was an accidental tilapia while I was on the phone with my girlfriend. We don't need to go into details. It was a little guy. I landed it one handed. That's all you need to know.
On a very positive note, there are snook on my beach! The past two trips, I've encountered very large schools of bait, many feeding birds, and a good number of fish. Walking along, you'd never know there was a summer long red tide outbreak last year.
This was the first snook I've caught in a year (on a six weight, so it doesn't qualify for this forum!)
