My annual daddy-daughter flypacking trip. This time to the wild trout designated south section of the East Fork of the Carson River. For those who haven't seen previous years flypacking trips, my daughter and I hike/wade up the rivers in full packs fishing as we go. We camp each night where ever we end up and resume the next day. Day 1 - hiking over the saddle, leaving Wolfe Valley Day 1 - late day fishing at Gray's Crossing Day 1 - Jaz gets the first catch Day 2 - morning coffee at our Gray's Crossing camp Day 2 - headed up the East Fork Carson River Day 2 - beautiful runs everywhere Day 2 - Jaz's best catch of the day is an 18" (hybridized) Lahotan cuttthroat Day 2 - lunch time Day 2 - step in the water, catch a fish Day 2 - fish on! Day 2 - the pinch in Gray's Canyon Day 2 - moving out of Gray's Canyon, into the Silver King Valley meadow Day 2 - another hookup Day 2 - rainbow in the net Day 2 - brown in the net Day 2 - bringing more fish to the net Day 2 - fishing the Silver King Valley meadow with Gray's Canyon in background Day 2 - another (hybridized) Lahotan cuttthroat Day 2 - working deeper into the meadow Day 2 - brookie takes a caddis dry fly with the Vaquero Cow Camp in background Day 2 - broad bodied brookie in the net Day 2 - most our catches were little guys Day 2 - the valley & meadow extend south for miles Day 2 - why yes, there is a fish under that boulder Day 2 - high mountain meadow daisies Day 2 - end of day camp explosion Day 2 - sunset in the valley with the moon out Day 3 - looking up at the origin of Silver King Creek in the distance Day 3 - scouting for juicy runs Day 3 - confluence of Silver King Creek (left) and East Fork Carson River (right) Day 3 - following the East Fork Carson River out of the meadow, we came across a fire pit with a large reflector wall Day 3 - another nice run, another hook up Day 3 - river life Day 3 - loops Day 3 - more loops Day 3 - humping over a ridge to bypass deep rapids Day 3 - still finding good runs between the meadows Day 4 - the fish were waiting for us to get back into the river Day 4 - this aquatic plant buds and blooms flowers UNDER the water (shot underwater) Day 4 - not so big, but pretty Day 4 - yet another bend of the rod Day 4 - my best brown (and there were a lot of them) Day 4 - the last fish that was not a brown trout Day 4 - opening to the upper end of Dumonts Meadows Day 4 - single hauling the 0wt Day 5 - hiking out, passing Silver King Valley meadow Day 5 - hiking out, passing near Gray's Crossing Day 5 - hiking out, looking back at Silver King Valley in distance

Excellent post, thanks for the memories. The Sierra is the one thing I miss most since leaving California and moving to Michigan. People here think that Michigan has mountains...lololololololol

That was an enviable trip on the East Fork of the Carson River, and it must be a pretty good trick to do all that wading and fishing while hauling a full pack.

Hi, I read your East Carson river post that you did with your daughter. Excellent! I want to do the same trip with my son in law but not sure where you started from? Would it be possible to let me know the trailhead location or the full route you took? I have fished the Carson past Markleeville and Heenan Lake before but want to go further. Thanks!
