My annual daddy-daughter flypacking trip. This time to the wild trout designated south section of the East Fork of the Carson River. For those who haven't seen previous years flypacking trips, my daughter and I hike/wade up the rivers in full packs fishing as we go. We camp each night where ever we end up and resume the next day. Day 1 - hiking over the saddle, leaving Wolfe ValleyDay 1 - late day fishing at Gray's CrossingDay 1 - Jaz gets the first catchDay 2 - morning coffee at our Gray's Crossing campDay 2 - headed up the East Fork Carson RiverDay 2 - beautiful runs everywhereDay 2 - Jaz's best catch of the day is an 18" (hybridized) Lahotan cuttthroatDay 2 - lunch timeDay 2 - step in the water, catch a fishDay 2 - fish on!Day 2 - the pinch in Gray's CanyonDay 2 - moving out of Gray's Canyon, into the Silver King Valley meadowDay 2 - another hookupDay 2 - rainbow in the netDay 2 - brown in the netDay 2 - bringing more fish to the netDay 2 - fishing the Silver King Valley meadow with Gray's Canyon in backgroundDay 2 - another (hybridized) Lahotan cuttthroatDay 2 - working deeper into the meadowDay 2 - brookie takes a caddis dry fly with the Vaquero Cow Camp in backgroundDay 2 - broad bodied brookie in the netDay 2 - most our catches were little guysDay 2 - the valley & meadow extend south for milesDay 2 - why yes, there is a fish under that boulderDay 2 - high mountain meadow daisiesDay 2 - end of day camp explosionDay 2 - sunset in the valley with the moon outDay 3 - looking up at the origin of Silver King Creek in the distanceDay 3 - scouting for juicy runsDay 3 - confluence of Silver King Creek (left) and East Fork Carson River (right)Day 3 - following the East Fork Carson River out of the meadow, we came across a fire pit with a large reflector wallDay 3 - another nice run, another hook upDay 3 - river lifeDay 3 - loopsDay 3 - more loopsDay 3 - humping over a ridge to bypass deep rapidsDay 3 - still finding good runs between the meadowsDay 4 - the fish were waiting for us to get back into the riverDay 4 - this aquatic plant buds and blooms flowers UNDER the water (shot underwater)Day 4 - not so big, but prettyDay 4 - yet another bend of the rodDay 4 - my best brown (and there were a lot of them)Day 4 - the last fish that was not a brown troutDay 4 - opening to the upper end of Dumonts MeadowsDay 4 - single hauling the 0wtDay 5 - hiking out, passing Silver King Valley meadowDay 5 - hiking out, passing near Gray's CrossingDay 5 - hiking out, looking back at Silver King Valley in distance

Excellent post, thanks for the memories. The Sierra is the one thing I miss most since leaving California and moving to Michigan. People here think that Michigan has mountains...lololololololol

That was an enviable trip on the East Fork of the Carson River, and it must be a pretty good trick to do all that wading and fishing while hauling a full pack.

Hi, I read your East Carson river post that you did with your daughter. Excellent! I want to do the same trip with my son in law but not sure where you started from? Would it be possible to let me know the trailhead location or the full route you took? I have fished the Carson past Markleeville and Heenan Lake before but want to go further. Thanks!
