Thought this would be a fun thread, maybe you can add photos too if you want.

I was out today at a small clear stream. Temperature was like 40 degrees but it was sunny.

I was fishing with my 3 wt maxcatch rod and used a squirmy worm first and later even a dry fly and caught some smaller fish up until 8 inch or so but most smaller.

You are probably not familiar with the fish as they are from Europe, those were mostly chub and a rudd. Saw some big ones up to 20 inches but they are really smart so I could only catch the small ones.

Here is a chub (or a dace, they are hard to keep apart)

And a rudd

The weather has been too cold for me and the river too high, so I haven't been fishing recently. Supposed to be warmer next week, so I might be able to get out to chase some fish. I'm glad to hear someone has been able to fish and catch something, no matter how small.

I do know those fish, as they were common in the local stream I fished "up north". Unfortunately, they never grew as large as the fish you guys have over there.

I got out the other day, but...cold front. Somehow got one fish...

At this weather I'm glad if I catch anything even if it is small. That is the good thing about UL fishing as with a 2 wt and a super thin tippet even smaller fish are some fun.

After weeks of high water and tons of rain in February and early march water levels start to normalize and i caught this chub of about 13 inches. Also caught 6 ir 7 more small ones.

Lost 4 bass in a row the other day! Haven't landed one this year!

Went out with my grandsons about a week and a half ago, managed to catch 4 bluegills from a family pond. Went to another pond on Saturday and caught a nice bluegill and a bass about 12" long. Went with a couple of other guys to a small creek. Caught some very small bluegills and a 6" smallmouth. Only one fish of any size so far, but still felt good to feel the tug.

Sadly its not ul season here yet. It would be a shame too hook up a steelhead and break my 2wt. I'll be using my centre pin for a while before its safe to bring my ul fly rod out. Looking forward to chasing cutthroat this july-aug before its dangerous to take the ul out again.

Wouldn't be the best choice of tackle but I doubt you'd have much risk of breaking your rod if you got into a steelhead. Stay at 10# tippet, keep a low rod angle and offload some work to the drag. Might not land it but sometimes they win no matter what you do :)

Around here steelhead is a spey game, not so much it's technically better but because doing anything else screws up the flow of other anglers sharing the water -- effectively a breach of etiquette.

A friend and I (both of us from Colorado) drove over and did the Wyoming Cutthroat Slam last week. He managed it in three days, I took a day or two longer. While the fish may be the goal, the scenery may be the real reward. Some of it was in reasonably water, some was in tiny water.

Went to visit an old friend in Montana last week. Neither of us was in good shape for fishing as I had a really bad infection in my left leg about 3 months ago and still have not regained my strength, and my buddy had his left kidney removed just over 4 weeks ago. Most of the rivers and creeks we checked out were running fast and due to our physical problems we couldn't really fish them effectively. He finally remembered a small stream that feeds into the Big Hole River, so we went there. I had just taught him how to cast a fly rod a few days earlier. He caught the first brookie, and then I hooked one just a few seconds later. I managed to catch two more, though very small ones. I wish I could have gone tp Montana 20 years ago when I was only in my 50's and still in reasonably good condition, but at least I finally got to go.
