Had the day off, and decided to do a little roadside ditch fishing yesterday. It turned out quite well.

I found plenty of warmouth

And best of all...my first Flier!

With the Flier bringing me to 41 species on the year, I've more than doubled my 2020 species list.

Not bad for a Tuesday morning.

Chris, it looks like some good time fishing. I had to use that Googly thing on the computer to find out what a flier is. And it seems to me that you've got quite a good thing going with 41 different species in one year. It must be a sort of micro-fishing with a fly rod. How did you get into that?

Thanks Pete. The high species count (now at 43) really stems from my involvement in a number of "mixed bag" contests with local fly fishing clubs. It has pushed me to expand beyond the Speckled Trout and Redfish I would normally devote the majority of my time targeting locally.

A trip to NY in May to participate in The Mayfly Project's 25 on the Fly also helped pad the numbers. Lots in the northeast I wouldn't normally catch in my part of the country.

Year to date, I've caught everything from Topminnows to Tiger Musky.

Here's a link to the full list (images included) if you're curious:
