I bought a Custom kit 7'6" 1wt today and was wondering what else I'll need and where to get it . It comes with dual foot snake eyes, reel seat and cork grip What kind of wrapping thread (silk) or otherwise . Any help or ideas are welcome . TIA jangles

Proof fly fishing offers a great selection of silk thread.
You'll also need:
-Masking tape. I use 1/4" to build reel seat arbors. 1/8" to tape guides to blank before wrapping.
-Epoxy for installing reel seat and grip. I use Flex Coat rod builder's epoxy.
-Finish. Flex Coat lite is excellent. Pick up the syringes as well, as you need a 50/50 mix in order for it to cure properly. I buy the mixing cups offered.
-Tip top adhesive. I use Bohning Ferr L Tite, but only because I could buy it from a local store. You'll also need a lighter to melt this.
-Brushes for applying epoxy and finish.
Best tip I ever received was to not throw the finish away after coating the threads. You use that to check to see if it's dry instead of touching the wraps. If the finish is still tacky, you'll leave a finger print on the rod!

I might add that most beginners prefer using nylon size A thread for the wraps. Also instead of epoxy, many use spar varnish for the wraps, but the thing to remember about spar varnish is it dries with a light amber color. However, spar varnish is very easy to use. Some masking tape leaves a residue on the surface, so I would recommend the blue masking tape which does not leave a residue behind.

Larry Yes , I called a rod builder and asked his advice also . He said the same thing . I'm going for it as I want to build an O next . I have watched so many rod building videos and I am certain that I can do this as I recover from a triple bypass I had 4 weeks ago . What good therapy !! Thanks for your input . Ron

Well I finished it . One I learned the locking x wrap the build went pretty smooth except for one little problem . When I applied the epoxy the Tiger wrap went almost black and cant see it at all . The red metallic I used can be seen but looks very deep . I'm not sure what happened . I ordered a 7'6" Owt from Mark at RDP for my next build . Anyway I'm looking forward to using it in Aug on my upcoming trip .

You have to use color preserver on the wraps before you apply the finish.
Looks good! Can't wait to see pics of the first fish

Looks good! Can't wait to see pics of the first fish I used color fast nylon on everything , well everything but the Tiger . I just assumed but you know what that does . I'm waiting on my RDP 7'6" O wt to get here so can get a start on it before I leave for Montana . After that one I'm building a jet black 7'6" 2wt for a friend as a gift . I love doing this man it's a ball and my old back and knees can take the sitting down !
