After reading a post about turning a Bass Pro Mico Lite spinning rod into a fly rod I had to give it a try. So I bought one, stripped the guides and paint, bought a hand wrapper and read a little on the subject. And this is the result of my first build. It cast a Dt3 wt with ease...and I am more than happy. Cant wait to get in the High Sierras and try it out on brookies https://i1378.photobucket.com/albums/ah ... cpt8qc.jpg

I got tired of waiting for the snow pack to melt and the runoff too slow down, in the High Sierras to give this first build a try. So this morning I went too a couple ponds near by that are popular with bass fishing folks. There is nothing big in it (except the pair of otters who live there) but it is loaded with small bluegill ...so this is the result.... this little guy was caught on a #16 elk hair caddis and was the largest one of the morning... caught 6 total.. I'm glad I had breakfast first! I think I'm putting my 4 and 5 wt rods up for sale...ultra lites are so much more FUN!! https://i1378.photobucket.com/albums/ah ... wp2e0g.jpg

I have wiggled those Micro Lite rods in the store and always thought they could make a decent fly rod from those blanks. Glad to see somebody do it. Good work.

Which one is this ? The length and power ? I have just put a fly reel on a Diawa Ultra-lite that I have and used it that way . Not a bad little caster once I got used to it .

First I want to thank everyone for the complements, This one is the 5 foot 2-6 lbs...wiggle them first...because one thing I have found is they are not all the same. This one cast 2-3 wt line well .I can get 30 feet with 3 wt. but a more experienced caster was able to get that with 2wt. line. For me that's more than enough, most of the High Sierra streams (creeks) I like to fish are huge if they are 10 feet across and so grown over you cant see 15 feet up or down stream. A couple more weeks and the snow melt will be slowing down and its off to 8000 ft to try to catch a trout

Definitely tempted by the 7.5 feet glass version.
