If you are interested in building a 2wt or a 3wt rod, and your on a tight budget (like me) then I encourage you to check out the rod building kits at Hook & Hackle. They offer 6'6" 2wt kits from Pac Bay (H&H branded Tradition II kits) at an amazing price. http://shop4.mailordercen...odinfo.asp?number=HHF6622They also offer Batson Forecast kits in 6'6" 2wt as well as a 7'6" 3wt, and a 7'9" 3wt. Some kits are even available with an instruction book. http://shop4.mailordercen.../departments.asp?dept=739They do offer other kits as well. Always check back at the H&H site for good deals, they are always running sales. Jeremy

I'll second that endorsement. I've done a lot of business with them over the years and have always got good service and prices. You also get a 10% discount if you order online. You used to get 20%.
For rod building suppliers check out rodbuilding.org site. A great site and they have a long list of rodbuilding sites with direct links.

Hi Dave, and welcome to the forum. I've done a good bit of business with H&H this year. Good outfit for sure. I'm a member at rodbuilding.org, but don't participate much. The direct links are great.

Their kits look like a really good deal! I might look into one of them!

Can anyone tell me about the H&H Traditions II kit? Is the blank slow, medium, or fast action? I prefer medium to slow rods. Thanks.

J. Thanks for the reply! The 6'6" 2 wt is the one I am thinking about.

Johnny, you can't go wrong with that blank. The Tradition II is a heck of a deal too. My only real complaint was that the guides they supply are a bit on the large side for a 6'6" 2wt. I didn't use them, I purchased some Pac Bay snakes in smaller sizes and used them. I used 1/0 for most of the running guides, and then stepped up (one each) to a #1, #2, #3, and then a #10 stripping guide. The reel seat is a Pac Bay A4, it's a bit heavy for a small rod but it certainly is functional.

J. Thanks, I ordered that kit! I will look at the guides when it gets here. It will be my first build and I may not be to picky about this one. I just want a short rod for fishing creeks out of my kayak. The 7'3" finesse 2 wt gets a little long at times. Thanks,
Johnny
