I've finished my first rod and was able to yard cast it yesterday. I was suprised at how far I could cast it. I have it spooled with WF3 right now. I'm going to go to a friend of mine who has several 2 & 3 wt lines that I can try out to see what it works best with. I'll post some pix as soon as I get some of the finished rod.

I got an Anglers Roost Enterprise on E-bay for $22 and $6 shipping. Here are a few pix of the build
Everthing laid out getting ready

Total mess mid build

Hook keeper wrap, metalic bronze on tobaco brown blank (I know, it's way too much wrap for a hook keeper, but I liked the look)
Image
just applied finish on wrap while it's still turning

Home made turner from 6 rpm microwave table motor, pvc cap, o-rings and misc hardware. (striper flies with left over finish along for the ride)

Looks good. I've always wondered about those blanks. I look forward to your performance report.

Still need to finish cork, glue on the butt cap, sign and seal but I couldn't wait. My daughter and I walked down to a neighborhood pond for a test. I put on a #16 clouser inspired by the thread on here about how small do you make your clousers. First presentation netted this little guy

Swithched to one of my "Big Skitos" a few cast later and this little guy pushed the sun fish out of the way for a bite.

I was really suprised on how good this thing cast...even with mild wind.
This rod is my first experience with an ultra light fly rod and I am having so much fun with it. I'm looking for a 3 or 4 piece in a 2 wt blank for my next build.

Good report. Yes UL rods can be cast in some wind, all one has to do is make some adjustments.

A few lessons learned on first build:
1. Don't get in a hurry. I was so excited to try it out I rushed a few things that I should have done differently.
2. If you are going to decide to change your grip profile and length, do it before gluing it and the reel seat to the but section.
3. Be very careful of how much glue you use on the reel seat. I got some 5 min epoxy into the front mortise and it took several hours with a tiny bur bit on a dremel and a dental pick to get it all out.
4. Work area lighting is very important.
5. Work in short sessions.
6. Size A Metallic thread is not very durable. I had to be really carefull with it to keep it from coming apart. I had to re-wraped several areas because there were gaps in the Metallic material. Next project I'll go with a solid color thread.

I hate metallic thread for that very reason

Did you find a line that matched this rod the best? I'm gonna be starting mine soon
