I just discovered this place after looking into getting a 2wt rod. The fishermen at the pipe and cigar shop all fly fish and have put the bug back in me. I haven't fished in the last 4 years. I got attacked by fire ants causing my immune system to attack my nerves in my arms and legs and killing 90% of them, thus losing about 60% of the muscles also since the muscles get their information to work from the nerves. So I went from physically being a 58 year old to a 90 year old. I can still walk, but not good or far. I did recently get out my Powell Light Touch 7'6, 4wt rod and was able to cast it, as holding onto heavy things, and gripping are problems I deal with. My main interest is in bluegill fishing. Hope to learn much and have fun on here.

Marty

Welcome aboard Marty. Unless you hook into a real lunker, you will find that a 2 weight rod will put much less strain on you. I may be prejudiced, but I find fiberglass rods to be less tiring to cast than most graphite, although there is a bit of a learning curve in slowing down your casting stroke.

Welcome, Marty! Keep us posted on your return to angling. Bluegill on a 2wt? Wonderful! My own limited experience bluegill fishing in SC has led me to believe it is the one best thing a man can do on a golf course.

Welcome Marty to the forum and wish you good luck in your recovery.
Many of us share your enthusiasm with Bluegill/sunfish and what
better way to fish for them than ultra light fly rods.

Thanks guys, I have been looking all over for my Renzetti vise, as we have moved 4 times in the last 4 years, and I want to see if I can still tie flies with my poor hand strength. Been on my buddy lately as well to finish up rebuilding his lower unit on his bass boat so that we can go fishing again. I have been getting all fired up lately for bluegill.

Welcome aboard Marty, Lots of nice folks with good info for Ultralight fishermen. I hope that with activity you get better. I "believe in miracles" so I have a feeling that lots of fishing will be helpful for you! Adios Philip

Welcome! spent four years in Davidson a while back. Even got arrested in Cornelius once, I think -- nothing serious :) I didn't fish then, but the area has a ton of available options!
