Chris, 1wt,
My buddy Curtis (bassackwards) and I made it the Gulf outing with our local fly fishing club. It rained hard the 1st half of the day and the 2nd half of the day was clear, but the bite was off.
Here's a pic of us unloading the kayaks from the boat that ferried us out from Rockport, TX to our fishing location:
A thunderstorm blew in with high winds and lightning (cloud to cloud and cloud to ground). We beached our kayaks and made it to a small island. There were a few trees on the island, but we decided not to take shelter under the trees. We hunkered down in the grass while the thunderstorm blew through - about 1.5 - 2 hours. You can barely make out Curtis behind me in the next pic:
Here we are after the thuderstorm started to taper off.
At about midday the sun came out, but the high winds stirred up the water and the water was not very clear and the bite was off.
Riding out the thuderstorm was an adventure, but somewhat dangerous. At the end of the day, we made it back safely and unharmed.
I'd like to think that my brother Mark had a hand in watching over us.
