Hennie here in the USA a dam refers to a dam wall. Here a dam is a pond or lake. What lake/dam is it that you you were referring to. (Eric Grove asking, ex South Africa, Alberton)

I never got to fish that dam but heard good reports of big Blou Kurper (Tilapia) there. One of them on a 3 weight would be a Blue Gill on steroids.

A friend of mine also suggested that it might be a Spotted Bass.
