I've caught a few Warmouth. Looks right to me, although that one is really beautiful!

Green sunfish. The mouth is much too small for a warmouth, and a warmouth doesn't have those bright colors on its fins.

I agree, green sunfish in spawning regalia! They are beautiful fish and we have a few around here that you occasionally pick up with the bluegill.

Beautiful. I don't have those guys around here, at least none that I've seen.

Regardless of what it is it was a fun fight on a three weight and made me handle it properly due to its toothy smile that you could here scratching on the forceps. No lipping that guy. Plus he was caught a foot from the bank in inches of water so it was that perfect cast situation.

So after some research I agree it is a green sunfish. It's definetly in spawning colors and my biggest to date. Thanks for the info guys.

I would have guessed red ear sunfish. They have teeth for cracking snail shells.

Thanks. He was a fighter for sure. He was near a bunch of beds so I made sure he was promptly released after a quick photo.
