In late September on a trip to the Gunnison area, I stumbled across Rustler's Gulch. I was there to meet two of my childhood buddies who prefer hiking. Fishing here with my Hardy Aln 5' 2wt. Have had that rod for 6 years and haven't fished it other than a few lawn casts. A curious little rod but it was great fun in this spot.. even though I was chucking a bead head hares ear with a strike indicator. Caught (and released) 5 or 6 feisty browns from this little slice of heaven. Not too graceful but I'll blame the "heavy terminal tackle" and light fiberglass rod. North of Crested Butte near the upper East River and Rustler's Gulch trailhead. Click on the photo and it will play the 1 minute video on my flickr page. Rustler's Gulch by Tom Hart, on Flickr

Tom, that is a nice little video and I was somehow unaware of your rod. Strangely enough, we were just talking about the ability of casting short lines and even just the leader with really short rods of different materials in this thread. viewtopic.php?f=101&t=12470&view=unread#unreadSo seeing your video made me curious about the little rod and I just had to use that googly thing to find out more. There is a good write-up here. http://www.flyfishohio.com/2-Weight_Sho ... dy_aln.htmAnd reading the results of the shoot-out has really got my imagination going.

That's the kind of place I dream about fishing in.

Shoot Out was where I was introduced to this rod. Glad I finally got it out on the water.

Pretty little stream.
I noticed you're from Ashland. Do you fish the steelhead runs? (I grew up in Lake County)
