Those reviews are based on the feel and flex of the ealier CGR, so this rod is different ot bad, just a little faster less forgiving. As I mentioned in another thread, I had a chance to feel this rod and it's a keeper.

Not my favorite but it's a better rod than credited by reviewers online. Definitely a keeper.

Good looking combo. I really like the look of that reel with the hardware.

New to the site but have enjoyed UL for some time. This 3wt. Butter Stick and 3-TAND reel is a new favorite of mine. My first fly rod was fiberglass. I remember getting it- I was in 6th grade. 1973 I think. A Garcia Conolon with a Pflueger Medalist reel. Dad consulted with local fly fisherman Mr. Diehl about what to get. (After all, Dad is a spin fisherman.) We went to the hardware- or was it a sporting goods store? behind Elmwood Plaza to pick it up. I was so excited... Anyway, kind of funny that I am back to lovin' fiberglass. The Garcia is still in the garage somewhere..

Sage ZXL 8' 2 wt, with an Abel TR Light reel and SA GPX WF2F line. Custom built from a blank. It's about 0.4 oz lighter than a factory rod. I have smaller and slightly lighter rods, but this rod just feels to me like an extension of my hand. I think about where I want the fly to go and it goes there with very little effort by me. Everyone has a rod that just 'does it' for them. This is mine.

Here is near favorite --> Sage TXL-F 000wt. with ULA P1 reel. I like it a lot. Partly because it reminds me of my all-time favorite the Sage SPL-CA 0 wt. I purchased the SPL-CA when it first came out. Couldn't really afford it. Loved it... then for some silly reason sold it. :-(
