OK, I am in the market for a sinking line to go on my TFO 1wt. It does not have to be new but, in good fishable condition.  I have some new floating line to trade which has never been on a reel or on reel, never in water.

Question is, I know people have said that the one weight rod cast a 3wt better so, I guess the question I have to ask is.... Does the same hold true for sinking line? or is uplining not recommended because of the weight of the sinking line?

This was moved to the more appropriate location of wanted UL gear.

I wouldn't recommend a sinking 3wt line for this TFO rod or any 1wt line for that matter. There have been numerous discussions on using fluoror leaders or furled fluro leaders and short loop-to-loop sink tips to create a usable sink tip for a 1wt. Here's a good tutorial for it:

I have a Teeny 3wt sink tip line...used it once on a 3/4 rod and found it just too heavy to cast well...i now use it on a 4/5 weight rod and it can handle it....fluro leader and tippet are the ticket for most applications with the lower weight rods...and you can always get some very small split shot made for fly fishing if you feel the need for a faster sink rate...

I've never seen a 1 or 2 weight sinking line. Do they even make it? I took a wf#2 floating line and reversed it on the reel, then reversed a #3 sinking line  and attached 21 feet of the sinking line(running line part) to the running line of the 2 weight.  I use this like a teeny BS-100 on my one weights-p-

My solution to a sinking line for 1wt rods is as follows:

Rio Spey Versitip Sinking Leaders in 15ft lengths.
Rio Running line 0.024 dia or Cortland 0.020 diameter.

This combination works very nicely on my Sage TXL 1wt and my TFO Finesse 1wt rods.

Casts with the sinking head are easy out to about 50ft.

Use a short leader of approx. 2ft long.

Regards,
FK

I do what Les said to approximate a sinking line on my 0 . . . I just furl a fluoro leader and use fluoro tippet. When I'm ready to float again, I take it off (loop-to-loop) and put on a furled poly leader and mono tippet.
