“I see,” said the blind carpenter as he picked up his hammer ... and saw!

Hipshot, that’s about what happened to me. My second cataract surgery was performed at the end of January, after a long time of waiting. The operation was a success and the patient survived. It was quite painless, this time with local anesthesia eye-drops and some IV sedative. The eye exam for driver’s license renewal was also successful after getting the appropriate glasses.

But the real and more important test came last weekend. After getting some 1.5X readers I tried some fly-tying. It was no problem to tie a #16 Woolly Bugger and a non-descript #18 soft hackle wet. That’s nothing like the #24 dries that were once tied, but for the fishing available to me today it’s certainly good enough.

So if you’re going to need cataract surgery, it’s better to get it done sooner than later.

Cliff: mine were done under a local anesthetic, and even that wasn't too bad. In my case, they severed the nerve between my anus and my retina, and I no longer have a crappy outlook.
