I'm posting this here because I used a bigger fly rod than allowed in the rest of the forum. I used my Ross Flystik 6wt (really takes an 8wt line to load it), with a wf 8wt Teeny MiniTip and various Simi Seal Leech Patterns, Golden Olive and Black Peacock seemed to draw the most strikes. I used a 5 foot Fluorocarbon Furled leader with 8 lb fluorocarbon Tippet.

Spent the day at Henry's Lake. Sasha and his friend made the trip from Boise (400 miles away one way) for the day too. We talked on the phone but never met up. Sounds like they got into a few fish, including one Brookie >20 Inches.

The fishing was spotty but the fish are there and things are happening. It was calm and clear until early afternoon. This is rare for Henry's Lake. It doesn't make for great fishing but I hooked three nice ones but only got one to my hands:

I kept the fish, a 24"+ Hybrid (Cutthroat/Rainbow) that weighted a sniffle under 6 lbs. The kids are always hollering for me to bring a fish or two home and they never get their way because I release most fish I catch. My Father in Law fished from his old Duck Hunting boat and hooked a few as well.

I hooked one that I fought for over 10 min. and had me into my backing twice. I saw the fish surface and judged it to be close to 30 inches. Needless to say, I going back in 2 or 3 weeks. 20 inch Brookies? 30 Inch Hyrbids? You bet. I'm in, even if it takes a fly rod that is larger than 3 wt.

Hope it is OK I posted this topic.

Dave

That sure is a nice fish...I bet the one that took you down to your backing twice was a ball to have on...

Thx It appears that this topic doesn't belong anywhere on this forum. I can delete it and it would be fine with me. Let me know if this thread is out of line.

Great report! I missed it as I didn't look in the OT section. I almost didn't post my report then I remembered I fished my TXL over on the Fork Image Too bad things didn't work out exactly as planned as I was looking forward to meeting and fishing with you. It looks like you had a better day fish wise then we did but I know I had a blast. I guess I should have posted my report over here too Image

WOW!

Thats one nice fish!

When I saw the pic it made me think of a roman chariot, looks like that fish could almost pull you arround on the lake.

Take care,
chris
