Due to the stress I have been feeling lately over the use of and bashing of UL on.. well you probably know where.. I decided to fish an overweighted rod (for this sight anyway) today. As I pulled up to the pond I see Don (who also must have been feeling some pressure to step it up, as he had a rather large GRAPHITE rod in his hand). It quickly became obvious to me that the stress levels of not only the fish but the fishermen as well are uncomfortably high over the issue of what rod is "the" right rod to fish. Anyway befor I get overly worked up over all of this, here are a few pics. I brought a 6/7 procrest 8'er with a 1492 medalist (turns out it was too light a reel and I need the larger 94) Don's setup wasnt so bad. I think I heard 5wt. also note we went fishless on these setups. However a plastic worm chucker showed up and proved there where still some pretty nice bass in there. At which point Don quickly left. I hung around talking to the guy after Don's departure and am now giving some thought into that method. He looked alot happier than either Don or myself fishing that "broomstick" today. And I'm pretty sure if he would have had a custom made set-up to sell I would have bought it.

One of those days when a bouncing worm was the ticket. There were a couple of other guys baitcasting on the other little lake and catching bass as well. There was vegetation out to about 10 feet and the bass seemed to be down and behind it. Needed a canoe to fly rod these fish. Don

Come to think of it, if I took the two Spezio blanks I have and wrapped them together side by side with twine I could go from a 1 weight to a 2. The weight would be about the same too. Don

good stuff. Let's talk real heavy: I think someone ought to bring out some heartwood and horsehair line and really go retro.

You gotta keep an eye on Urban. I swear the guy carries a little container of grubs in his back pocket. If we're not careful he'll be setting up a UL trot-line soon :-D

Hey, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. How about a UL wurm rig?! Loomis CR 842 GL3 casting rod, for 4-8lb test, Ambassadeur Morrum reel with 6lb test, and 1/8oz wurm weights. Don't laugh, the Loomis even has butt to give.

How about a long drawnout discussion on the merits of worm fishing?
and Jdub you shouldnt be the one talking about what we carry in our pockets. What is it you really plan to do with that little pea shooter?? If I was a frisco fish I'd be really nervous. Kind of takes sight fishing to the extreme dont u think??

Explored the Urban wilderness some more today and found a few BIG ones. First was a fine Ulmus Crassifolia Arguably the biggest in the state. It was one of the better signs I saw today tho. NO FUN. NO THANKS.. Than I found me a good spot to break out the "long rod" and it was on... Like Jdub tho I dont touch these suckers and I had to call in some help.. Im really starting to take to this overweight stuff..

I hate to be a gate crashr but you can buy the little 2.5 and 3" flukes; wrap the #4 aberdeen hook with thread, smear on some krazy glue and thread it thru the fluke; this can easily be cast on a 3 weight; also you can get the small trout worms and do the same thing; that keeps you competitive with the crank and wind crowd; not legal for records but the bass don't care if its cast from a fly rod or a casting rig-p-
