H! David,
I am doing my best to make these match the size/cost of the high-end aluminum billet reels - it is no problem with the larger sizes 3/4 and up. But these smaller ones are going to be a challenge to meet the weight. I have tried to maintain the "look" throughout the family of sizes, but I might have to "Swiss cheese" these little ones a bit on the inside. The titanium is so strong I might go with 0.020" for the side plates with a large arbor.

Titan....when you get one assembled......I'd love to see a picture.....
You need a tester to field-test the reel???

H! David,
Help me out with some "must haves" you would like in your ideal "Field Test UL" - that will get me a head start - instead of guessing - then I can work on lightening this up.
Thanks

Hmmm...
I'm a simple guy.....
Must haves?.....
#1. Under 2.0 ozs - preferably under the weight of a J A Forbes 2" Avalon at 1.6 oz. #2. Exposed palming rim for control. #3. I like an outbound audible clicker....inbound I can take or leave. #4. I don't really see the need for an adjustable drag...click-pawl is ok with me. #5. I like the looks of the drilled reel foot ala J A Forbes Avalon 2". #6. I like "cushy" reel handles made of soft rubber, not hard ones - but this isnt set in stone. A nice, turned wooden reel handle would be a classy touch also! #7. Capacity doesn't have to be huge. I think half a DT1 with some backing would be good. #8. Large or small arbor.....whatever is lightest. #9. No anodized color. I love the look of naked titanium!
Guys........any other sugestions?
David

If possible, under 2.8oz and 2.25" diameter Click pawl drag go ahead and swiss cheese the frame to minimize weight A bar stock foot with two holes drilled in it would help with weight also. Use a small diameter turned wood handle
That would probably suffice for a light reel.

H! guys,
Can you hook me up with a few links where to find the particulars and some pictures of these UL reels.....Forbes, Avon, Youngs, etc.
Some are old stock - new stock - hard to find....I need some help.
This is exciting..........building to a certain weight goal.

Titan, Here's a link for some information on Young reels. The reels that you need to look at are going to be the Beaudex, Pridex and Condex with a 3" reel coming in at 5 oz. Young built reels for numerous private label shops and the smallest one that I am aware of is a 2 1/2" reel. This link will get you started and you can find other reels listed in these pages. Hope this helps. http://fiberglassflyrodde...uku.com?topic=1366?page=5Doug
