I would say 20% for me. I get the three weight out maybe 1 time a week.

20-40% for me this year at least. I am really getting into float tubing and lake fishing and have been taking to a 9'6" 7wt...been away for the UL the past couple of months but I think that is because of where I have been fishing.I haven't been able to get out that much so my time on the water has become really limited.

For me it really depends on the type of fishing that I am going. Stream trout fishing it is 95% or so now. However that type of fishing is not something that I can do all of the time as I am surrounded by saltwater, where distance casting is more important than anything. On the saltwater I am usually forced to fish a 6wt or even an 8wt as 70 to 100 foot casts are needed. Plus once you hook into one king salmon that is 20lb on a light rod you kind of learn your lesson.

I'm somewhere around 50/50. All of my small stream fishing is ultralight, but in Winter and Spring around here the small streams are very slow. Steelhead and Chum call for a minimum of a 7-wt (but preferably a 9-wt) while you can get away with a 5 for Pinks and smaller Coho. I don't do much lake fishing, but if I do, it's usually a 5-wt. Medium to large rivers depend on the amount of water flowing. I won't go heavier than a 5, but have been known to pull out the 000 under some conditions. Winter time is windy here (outflow winds) so I need a minimum of a 5-wt, and even then I occasionally get blown off the water. Hooked a 24 inch rainbow on a 3-wt on a large river a few years back. One of only a handful of times I've ever seen my backing...

If there was a single rod that I used most often, it would be a very close tie between the 000 and my 5-wt.

I guess it's all relative as to what's UL. This site focuses on 000 to 3 wt but 5wt can be UL for larger or saltwater fish. Ignoring that fact I'd say I fish UL about 1/2 the time. I really like my 1wt for most trout as long as I can reach fish with it's 7' length. My grandsons now have my longer 3wts so I've been using my 4wt for big bugs, big waters or really big trout. My 5wt sits in the truck when I go to large rivers just in case. I haven't used it in 2 years for trout.

I'll probably get a new 3wt but right now I just ordered a Tenkara outfit. BTW - does that count as UL. They recommend 5x to 7x tippet so you don't damage the rods so it sounds pretty UL to me.

60 - 80% for me. I still fish Texoma and the Red River a lot and some of those bign's might hurt my sweet little babies. Image

That's hardcore Ed. I have sold off my 9 and 10 weight graphites, so 8 is as high up as I currently own. Don

Most of the time I fish with my Orvis Superfine 2 wt. Lately I have gone retro fiberglass with some 6 wts.
