I have two dogs a tan Lhasapso and a white Lhasapso. One day I was tying some clousers and I noticed the nice long tail fur on my dogs. I looked around and saw my wife was not around and proceeded to snip a few tail hairs from my dogs. I went out to my local pond yesterday and although I did not catch anything, the action of the tail fur was incredible. Maybe even better action than maribou. I have a feeling my dogs will be getting more hair cuts . Anyone else use fur, hair or feathers from your pet? Parakeet feathers would be interesting, nice greens and blues....

My white lab sheds enough hair to keep everyone on this site in hair & I have caught fish with it

I have some fur my tabby which died last June. I tied some flies from her fur, but my wife Kay hid them from me before I had a chance to try them out...

Both of my beagles died this past year. The older female had courser hair suitable for some tails of small flies and a good replacement of fox squirrel. The younger male's hair was great for a light tan dubbing. A few weeks before he died I stocked up on his dubbing and now tie flies that are called a Stinky Charlie. They are all a little different but are called the same thing and they all catch fish quite well. We have been adopted by a cat and I've collected some of her offerings but haven't tied with it yet.

Gene tried to shave the hair off his pet nutria to use for flies, that's why Gene is missing two of his fingers.

I have tied clousers with the hair from a Springer Spaniel I used to have. My Golden Retriever currently yields some great scud dubbing.

I use trimmed hair from the tail of my wife's horse as a bucktail substitute. Works especially good for clousers.
I've even tied up a couple of "horse hair poppers" that work really well.

I think we need to open up a Cliff and Pearow forum where they just banter back and forth and we watch.

I pick up and save feathers from our green/yellow and blue/white Budgies, and our green/yellow/orange Sun Conure when they molt but it's usually not flight feathers or anything that looks like hackle but very small breast feathers and I haven't figured out a pattern to use them in. Maybe a Spey-type streamer as cheeks.

I have tied several streamer type fly with hair from my sons red chow they give him a summer hair cut and they send me the hair. I agree the action of dog hair in the water rivials marabou plus the chow hair is a reddish brown so it is a pretty good color to use in the natural state
