Like many I keep my rods assembled and ready to go. When I bought my van for a fishing vehicle I looked at many of the rod holder setups $$$ but they took up too much space. When I head out with my wife to float the pond I always inflate the tubes at home so we are ready to hit the water right away. What I wanted was some way to protect the assembled rods when the van was packed. Cindy and I were talking about it and she said a PVC pipe would work. After more discussion, the PVC pipe could roll around we came upon a cheap alternative, a plastic downspout. I went to Home Depot and bought a ten foot section for under $8.00. I cut it in half and now have two rod protectors. Since the rod only needs protection in the back area of the van I let the top of the rods be exposed behind the front seats as it is only my wife and I when we fish this way. If you what more protection just cut the downspout to the rod length. Here is a sequence of loading the van with everything ready to go when we arrive at the water.

Joe,
I like this a lot- it prevents the tube from rolling around unsafely in the back and all the time offers protetion to the rod...

I fish 4 ponds within a 20 minute drive of one another, so I frequently have my rods rigged, along with a buddy who is a bass spin fisherman. This is a GREAT idea! Thanks for sharing.
