Hi guys, down here in Chile we are off season... so today I take the day off to do some DIY rod rack project. If you have the hardware tools lying around is pretty cheap to do and save some bucks. I know Cabelas sells one similar to this one, but there is no Cabelas down here and the S&H is too steep to justify the overseas purchase
Tools:
Dremel to put a nice bevel if you want
Sand paper
Electric saw, I dont see myself cutting it by hand... but is doable
Hole saw and a drill to use the hole saw
A working bench
Some free hand vise
Wood, measuring 1x32x3,2 inches... It's the one I could find here. You can make 2 5 rods racks with it
Varnish
I measure a little more than an inch from the bottom and from one side and draw the lines. From there I took the cap of one of my tubes and measure it against those line and made it touch both in a perpendicular fashion. Take a pencil and draw. Then from the bottom line I measure like 5 inches, and then a little more than an inch and repeat the process 5 times.
The curved union between the lower and upper hole was done with a lens box that I have lying around. The last curve to end the rack is done the same way.
Cutting the wood:
Almost ready to apply the varnish:
And some testing before the varnish, I clean the wood powder with some humid paper so I need it to dry before I put the varnish also...Doing it tomorrow (I don't work on Fridays, my shift is 4x3):
Cheers
