I tried adding chinelle or estaz stuff to my spydies off and on. Doesn't seem to help with catching at all for me. I get better luck with contrasting color of thread.

That vise looks like it has a few miles on it.
I am going to tie a few of these guys up in various colors for an upcoming river trip. I may go with peacock herl instead of chenille. I bet this fly fits perfectly in to the simple yet effective category.

So...I'm new to this tying thing...I picked up a Danvise, foam, hooks, and then raided my wife's sewing junk box. I tied up a total of 20 spiders in different colors and leg configurations. I also added a tail on several of them with some kind of pink plastic sparkled stuff that kind of looked like chenile. (thank you wife) WOW...I've had a blast fishing these things. I've caught alot of gills, and tonight I lost a really nice bass. I played it wrong, to much pressure, and SNAP....lost the fish and fly.
Thanks Tinman for a simple pattern that a newbie cold tie and use. I'll post up some pics when I tie up a new batch.

Here's a few of my "spastic" spiders. I've caught Bluegills, Bass, and Trout on these. Thanks again for the step x step.

This fly is really gaining it's footing in my box. I think I will try to wrap the body with emu feather instead if chenille to help it float higher. Not sure if it'll work or how it'll change it's fish-catch-ability but it's worth a try.

i tied a few up last night to send to my buddie at Scent Smoker i used just a dab of red chenille on the back and a couple with a dab of black also ..the less chenille the better they float ..i wish they would float a black knat as a dropper but they won't they sink .. i go up in size on the cutter and bring the foam back on the head which makes a bigger spider which will float a dropper much better ..at certain times the dropper rig works great i use it later in june early in the morning and late in the evening good combo on lake bass and gills .. glad you guy's like it ..maybe TailingLoop will chim in and offer his opinion on a nice hackle size on the TK spider the fly would work great with a nice small soft hackle he does some great stuff with hackle if you follow his step by steps ..
