No idea what to call this thing. It's what I was using yesterday to catch the browns on the creek I was in.
It imitates an emerger. Floats just under the film, give it a little strip and it's like crack for trout.
We have a few yellow mayflies finishing thier hatch (yellow sallies, PMD, craneflies, and hex), probably why it worked. My camera sucks at close up shots.

I use an Orvis extra fine dry fly hook #1523 in a #12
Yellow and Brown dubbing, yellow thread.

Start by laying a base of yellow.

Tie in some brown dubbing beginning at the back to about half way up the shank.
Then tie in the yellow up to the hook eye, build a "nose" with a few wraps.

Next tie in the wings, and whip finish, and hit with a drop of head cement. Let dry, then trim the wings.
I am using a feather that I picked up while bluegill fishing. I have no idea what it's from. :lol
You can see it in the pic, if you have any clues, sound off.

Here's a few completed. I tried one with a little Krystal Flash. Haven't fished it yet, curious to see if it works as well as the one in the center of the group.

ImageBut it works!

Either a duck or goose feather, based on the picture my guess would be goose wing feather.
