Originator: Skip Morris Hook: heavy scud #16 (not sure the brand I used) Head: gold bead 3/32" Thread: Danville 6/0 beige Weight: 0.015 Tail: goose biots amber Body: gold flat mylar tinsel Rib: small red wire Thorax: grey ostrich herl Legs: ginger hen fibers Wing case: pheasant tail fiber 1. Put a bead head, secure the hook, and start the thread. Move the thread to the rear. 2. Add a wire and secure it with the thread. I'm using a 0.015 lead wire (check the regulation). The idea is to stop the bead from moving back and forth. In this case, the front-end is actually inside the bead. Move the thread back to the rear and create a thread ball. This will keep the biots apart. 3. Attach the biots. 4. Tie in the red wire and mylar tinsel. I'm using a flat mylar tinsel in #14 as it is wide enough to wrap the body without too much hassle. 5. The body is just this tinsel over the thread, so make sure the thread underbody is evenly wrapped (no bumps). Secure it with the red wire. 6. Tie in some pheasant tail fiber and ostrich herl. 7. Turn the ostrich herl toward the bead 8. Attach the legs. 9. Push the herl to flatten and cover it with the pheasant tail fibers and whip finish.

12 degrees with a wind chill of -6 degrees. Too cold and windy to do anything but tie. Real nice tie there man.

It sounds similar to Japanese shochu (I haven't had shochu for like 25 years, so I don't remember the taste). I'll look for it when I go to the Asian market next time. I picked up another jar of Kimchee this morning.

Very nice job on the SBS. Thanks for posting. I'll have to find time to tie some of these up myself.

Soju is Korean hooch. Unregulated so you never know what the alcohol content is. My son-in-law found some in his duffel bag when he got back from Korea. It can creep up on you quick!
that is a very nice tie btw. I have to wrap lead before thread as these old hands (50) cannot manage the lead once the thread is started.

Speaking of Soju.................... I heard when I was in the Air Force that it's Embombing Fluid & you can end up in a ditch only to wake up 3 days later, so better stick with the Sake

I went back to the Asian market, but I could not find one in the alcohol section. I cannot read Hangul, and I could not get any help. I got 2 bottles of sake (Sho Chiku Bai) though.

Regarding Soju, I was told that due to its higher alcohol content, it cannot be sold at the Asian market; I need to find one at a liquor store.
