#20 heavy scud hook
Red 8/0 Uni Thread
Red neck hackle feather
White deer body hair
Start off with a base layer of red thread, leave a little gap at near the hook eye, and wrap down to the barb then back to the start.
Strip the plumage off of a red neck hackle feather, leaving the center of the quill bare then tie in with the tip pointed to the hook eye. This is important, because you want the body to taper. Then tie the quill down the length of the thread base and return the bobbin to the start.
Clip off the tip.
Wrap the quill up the hook shank, keeping the wraps close together then tie off.
Clip the quill off.
Get a small clump of around 20 deer body hairs, this will be used to create the wing.
Clip off the tips to even them up and make the hair to used a little thicker in diameter.
Wrap the deer hair down tight, completely covering the head with thread, and whip finish. After the wing is tied dow it should naturally flare, clip off the thread.
Get a hold of all of the wing hair, and pull up in a bunch.
Clip off.
Made one in caddis green too.
