The Panhandle also has some gems. Love the streams that require you to take dirt roads to get near. In 5 days of fishing never saw another soul. Cutthroats and Brookies were very generous.

Cheers Jimbo,
This has given me the inspiration to pass through your neck of the wood in July when my lady and I are trekking from Vegas to Yellowstone and back.
I can wait to see the lesser know areas like this and many others on our trip, plus a wild cutthroat or 10.

Was off the site for a while. Have fished the St. Joe in Idaho but no where else. Live in Washington near Seattle. Need to move! Hey Vince not sure cause I work two jobs but maybe be able to get to Idaho when you go there. Let me know the date and see if we can get a couple of days of fishing in. Thanks John

Nice post Dave,
I'm in Idaho as well, although the south western part of it, we should get together and go fishing sometime, because my favorites are the small streams and creeks also.

Dave. Great presentation of SE Idaho. I live in the north panhandle and my major big flowing water is the Lightning Creek that flows into Lake Pend Oreille. The IFW are in
love with, what is known, as West Slope Cutthroat. We had two creeks running thraough
our property that had Rainbow and Brookies in abundance. It was enjoyable to go out in
the morning and catch a few Brookies for breakfast. However, due to the nature of the Brookies the IFW poisoned off the creeks way up at the headwaters and re stocked with
the Cutthroat, which are not harvestable. So most of our good fishing is over the mountain to the south to the Coeur D'Alene area and up the St. Maries or St. Joe rivers. The small
tributaries, as you mention, are a kick to fish on light rigging. Still, my boy says that the
Brookies will return to the water that is out our back door. Seems like the Brookies always find a way to get into the good water. In the interium I have gone to fishing the many
lakes in the area for panfish and enjoy that very much. You can use many of the flies that I tie up for trout, which is a plus. Sorry that I have no pics of the good water in our area,
but since you are also in Idaho, you know the beauty and screnity that is a staple here and
makes for always a good day out on the water.

Crunchy
